Music mogul Simon Cowell has spoken in support of David Cameron, a day before the election.

“I believe he is the prime minister Britain needs at this time,” Mr Cowell told the Sun.

“He has substance and the stomach to navigate us through difficult times.”

The music producer and talent judge was impressed when he met David Cameron on two occasions: “I liked him immediately. I trust him and he was very quick to commit to helping with a serious funding deficit for a children’s hospice charity I am involved with.”

“I have always trusted my gut instinct – and this was a guy who I thought would do the right things for this country,” he said.

Mr Cowell described Mr Brown as “very sincere” but doubted Labour leader had the energy to be a prime minister again.

He also dismissed Nick Clegg as “made for TV.” The Liberal Democrats’ popularity grew overnight after their leader’s performance at televised debates.

“We are not talent show judges picking pretty-sounding contestants now. The future government of our country is so much more important than that,” he said.

Mr Cowell has also expressed support for Conservatives’ plans to cut public spending. He said: “Delaying the pain for future generations is suicidal.”
