Labour slam appointment of ex-chief whip under investigation as Leader of House of Commons

Shadow Commons leader Thangam Debbonaire has hit out at the decision to reshuffle chief whip Mark Spencer into the role of Leader of the House of Commons.

Spencer is currently under investigation for comments made to ex-minister Nus Ghani and William Wragg has referred his whips office to the police.

Spencer, who had previously not been named as responsible for Ghani’s complaints that she had been fired due to Islamophobia, publicly denied his involvement.
Debbonaire explained via Twitter: “This is just the latest in a long line of appointments that demonstrates this government’s complete disregard for standards in politics.”

A Cabinet Office probe into Nusrat Ghani’s claims are currently underway.
