Labour MP to release album with former ‘Sex Pistols’ member
Labour MP Kevin Brennan will release an album with a former member of punk rock band the Sex Pistols.
The folk album, titled ‘The Clown and the Cigarette Girl’ is written and performed by the MP for Cardiff West, with Glen Matlock, ex-bassist for the Sex Pistols.
The album, whose name relates to a photo of Brennan and his sister at a fancy dress party, will be launched at London’s 100 Club next month, and the single ‘Tabernacle Lane’, is now on Spotify.
Matlock was bass guitarist for the iconic band’s original line-up and is credited as a songwriter on 10 of the 12 songs on their first and only album, ‘Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols’.
Brennan has played guitar in the cross-party rock band ‘MP4’ since 2005.
The band was founded as ‘MP3’ in 2004 by Scottish National Party MP Pete Wishart on keyboards, then-Labour MP Ian Cawsey on bass guitar and vocals, and Conservative MP Sir Greg Knight on drums.
Brennan later joined the group on guitar, and the name was changed to reflect this.
Three of the four members were re-elected at the 2010 and 2019 general elections respectively. Cawsey lost his seat in 2010 and decided not to seek re-election, but remains a band member.
