Defence secretary tells Starmer to ‘stick to the day job’ after Ukraine comments

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace this morning suggested that the leader of the opposition should stick to his “day job” after he argued Boris Johnson’s authority on the world stage had been degraded.

Wallace spoke as both Johnson and Sir Keir Starmer travel to Brussels as  Ukraine-Russia border talks plough on , as the Foreign Secretary remains in talks with Russian officials in Moscow.

“I think there’s a danger that Labour are probably talking in their own echo chamber,” Wallace argued on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

“I visited 11 countries  in the last two-and-a-half weeks… What is absolutely the case is that Britain is recognised as a serious player.

“It’s interesting Keir Starmer has time to talk [about] that in his own interviews rather than on Nato. If Keir Starmer wants to focus on the day job, which is what I do and all of my ministerial colleagues…”
