Antisemitic incidents in the UK hit record high

A report from the Community Security Trust (CST) today reveals that reports of antisemitic incidents in the UK have hit an all-time record high.

CST, a charity who provide safety, security, and advice to Jewish communities across the UK, recorded 2,255 antisemitic incidents in 2021, an increase of 34% on the incidents recorded by the charity in 2020.

These statistics represent the highest total ever reported to CST in a single calendar year.

Over a third of all antisemitic incidents in 2021 – 826 out of the 2,255 total – alluded or were related to Israel and the Middle East, evidenced anti-Zionist motivation alongside anti-Jewish language, targeting or motivation, or combined a mixture of these elements.#

Andrew Percy MP and Catherine McKinnell MP, co-chairs of the APPG Against Antisemitism said in light of the new figures: “We will continue to fight antisemitism irrespective of where it comes from , including under the pretence of the Middle East conflict. Whether it be online platforms, booksellers, educational charities, or colleagues, we will always be outspoken and will challenge antisemitism where we see it. The need to speak out has never been clearer, and we all have a part to play”.
