Brexit delays causing ‘risk to public health’

Gary McFarlane, director of the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health in Northern Ireland, has warned MPs that delays caused by Brexit may cause a ‘risk to public health’.

Speaking to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, McFarlane stated that criminals would be keeping a close eye on the situation, as it presents an opportunity to make significant amounts of money.

There are concerns that the increased paperwork required, may lead to criminals attempting to bypass the process. This could lead to mislabelling of products and allergic reactions, he said.
