MPs scrutinise peerage of PM’s ‘close friend’ Lord Lebedev

In the opposition day debate, MPs scrutinised “close friend” of Boris Johnson and “son and business partner of an ex KGB agent” Lord Lebedev’s peerage.

Angela Rayner began the debate, telling the House that MPs will be “united in the message they send to Putin”, and that the debate was about “protecting the country’s security”.

The Paymaster General Michael Ellis explained that the government “regrets” the motion because there are “many pressing issues”, therefore, making it “surprising” that the opposition would make such an “attack on a single individual”.
