Lammy slams NI bill, accusing government of ‘game of brinkmanship’

In a debate on the new Northern Ireland protocol, foreign secretary Liz Truss laid out legislation to unilaterally change the agreement with the European Union, with Truss telling the House of Commons that the bill “is both necessary and legal”.

Shadow secretary David Lammy slammed the proposed legislation, telling MPs that “a game of brinkmanship” will add to economic problems and “deepen a diplomatic row with friends and partners”.

Conservative backbencher Simon Hoare asked Conservative MPs what their reaction would be if Labour were in government and proposing what he described as “Henry VII clauses”.
