Kwarteng defends ‘lack of political stability’

During BEIS questions, secretary of state Kwasi Kwarteng defended the rise in national insurance during a cost of living crisis.

This came after shadow secretary Jonathan Reynolds criticised the move, describing the government as adding to the “burden in a way that no other major economy is doing”.

Kwarteng told MPs that “it made sense for the NHS backing and also for ongoing health and social care costs”.
