Grenfell Tower: Commons united to address ‘failures that spanned all political parties’

In the debate on social housing and building safety, the tension of yesterday’s levelling up debate was replaced by a unity and sorrow for the “failures that spanned all political parties” that have led to disasters such as that of Grenfell Tower.

Housing secretary Michael Gove vowed to make the changes required, telling the House that voices that raised concerned “were not heeded” and that it is something that “must rest on his conscience”.

Shadow secretary Lisa Nandy apologised to families on behalf of the Labour Party and assured Gove that Labour would support him in “whatever battles” he has in passing a bill.
