Green Party: Government energy plans ‘risible’

MP for the Green Party, Caroline Lucas, asked in an urgent question for a statement on “reports that six North Sea oil and gas fields are due to be given the green light this year”.

In his statement, Greg Hands the Business Energy and Industrial Strategy Minister explained that continuing to use oil and gas is about avoiding the “extinction of our energy sector” and that the government has “delivered both on the economy and on the environment”.

Lucas described this strategy as “risible”, and questioned the government’s commitment to international agreements made at the Glasgow climate pact.
