Government under fire for ‘poverty of ambition’ in education plan

During the debate on education, following last week’s Queen’s Speech, shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson repeated Keir Starmer’s accusation of the government having a “poverty of ambition” for public services.

Education secretary Nadhim Zahawi set out his plan which “will not be without its challenges”, but told the House that the education bill will give the UK a “future full of promise”, keeping communities “safe, secure and prosperous”.

Zahawi promised the House the government’s relentless focus: “delivery, delivery, delivery”.
