Duncan Smith urges sanctions for human rights abuses

Conservative MP Iain Duncan Smith led the backbench debate on tackling human right violations with sanctions in a speech in which he urged the government not to be left behind.

Duncan Smith told MPs that sanctions are effective when applied in coordination and that that is “possible only if there is sincere determination”.

The former Conservative leader demanded that the UK should “shine its light of freedom in every nook and cranny of dirty money”.
