NASUWT on appointment of Education Secretary Michelle Donelan

Speaking on the appointment of Michelle Donelan as Education Secretary, NASUWT General Secretary Dr Patrick Roach said:

“I wish Michelle Donelan every success in her new role.

“As the new Education Secretary, she has the opportunity to win the confidence of teachers by addressing head on the profession’s concerns about pay, workload and rock bottom morale. However, she will need to act quickly and urgently.

“Teachers’ patience has been tested to the limit over more than a decade. The Education Secretary will need to recognise that more warm words will not be enough to assuage the rising anger of teachers who have been badly let down and undervalued by the Government.

“With her predecessor now residing at Number 11 Downing Street, we expect the new Education Secretary to be well placed to deliver the  restorative pay award that teachers deserve.”
