Foreign journalists shadow UK candidates

Prominent international journalists will be shadowing parliamentary candidates in the final week of the general election campaign, under an initiative organised by the British Council.

Thirty journalists representing 28 countries from Afghanistan to Venezuela will follow the campaign and report on their experiences to audiences in their home countries.

Harriet Harman, David Lammy, Glenda Jackson and David Willetts are among the candidates to have signed up to the project, which will begin with a briefing on the UK electoral system.

China’s People’s Daily, Spain’s El Pais and Palestine’s Al-Quds are among the publications taking part.

Pairings for Scotland have already been decided with Malcolm Bruce to be shadowed by a journalist from Azerbaijan, Alistair Carmichael by a reporter from Belgium, and Angus Robertson by a hack from Luxembourg.
