Focus on armed service votes

The Liberal Democrats have raised concerns that many of Britain’s overseas armed forces may not be able to vote in the general election.

They point out that with postal votes being sent out on April 21 with normal post there may not be time for overseas forces to return votes.

Liberal Democrat peer Lord Roberts of Llandudno is calling on the Government to publish any special arrangements that have been made.

Lord Roberts said: “The Government should publish full details of what arrangements have been made ensure that our armed forces serving abroad can exercise their democratic right to vote.

“Has a special courier or other services have been investigated?

“Whilst our servicemen and women are helping to bring democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan they may be unable to vote in the British general election.”
