Conservatives unveil public’s poster suggestions

The Conservative Party has unveiled a selection of campaigning posters suggested by the public.

The posters all follow the Conservatives’ election theme “Let Down by Labour” which the Tories claim has “caught on with the British people, who are clearly increasingly disillusioned with the dismal failures of the Blair administration.”

Official posters currently on display include a picture of John Prescott showing the V-sign behind his back along side the slogan “Thumbs up for Labour’s policy on anti-social behaviour”.

Co-chairman Dr Liam Fox said that the 80 posters displayed on the website come from 1,500 suggestions received by Conservative Central Office.

Two of the posters will be selected by Dr Fox and Lord Saatchi and will be used by on bought advertising space.

Among those on view include the slogan “Blair cares what you think every four years. Make the most of it.”

Labour is countering with posters stating “Britain is working, don’t let the Tories wreck it again.”

A key focus of the attacks is Michael Howard’s record in goverment with the Labour Party highlighting high unemployment in the 1980s and recession and poll tax in the 1990s.

Both parties are hoping for a good showing on June 10th in the local, European and London elections. The Conservatives are running slightly ahead of Labour in most opinion polls but a key factor for both parties will be the level of turnout amongst their own support.

A recent ICM poll found that only 34 per cent of voters definitely intended to vote and among those only 70 per cent of general election Conservative voters and 73 per cent of Labour voters, said they would definitely be voting for the same party in these elections.
