Prime Minister Tony Blair has complained to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) over a newspaper story about his son Nicky’s education.

Mr Blair and his wife Cherie said the story in the Sunday Express, that detailed their 18-year-old’s university application, was intrusive.

The prime minister’s official spokesman asked journalists to refrain from repeating details of the March 14 article.

The investigation is expected to take up to a month.

The PCC code states: “Young people should be free to complete their time at school without unnecessary intrusion.”

Mr Blair has been at pains to protect his family from media interest. He has had to report the press to the PPC after the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail made inquiries into Euan’s application to Oxford University.
