Thomas Cook wary of sky marshals
Holiday airline Thomas Cook says it will ground any flights with sky marshals onboard.
The airline operates 40 flights a week through US airspace, including flights to the Florida resorts of Orlando and Miami.
It has airport slots at Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow and Gatwick.
The airline says it wants its captains to remain in control of aircraft.
The statement comes as British Airways flight BA223 to Washington DC was delayed three times due to increased fears of a terror attack.
Around 200 passengers had to wait while BA obtained clearance for the flight from US authorities.
JMC is due to meet Government officials on Tuesday to discuss the issue of sky marshals.
A JMC spokesman said: “For the time being, if a sky marshal presents himself, we will cancel the flight.
“Like Balpa, we want to see captains remain in full control of the aircraft at all times.”
Pilots’ union Balpa has called for a joined-up solution to the problem of security on flights.
A spokesman said: “We want an over-arching agreement with the government covering the use of air marshals on all airlines.”
