Wiltshire PCC winner charged with false declaration

Wiltshire’s former police and crime commissioner (PCC) for Wiltshire has been charged with presenting a false declaration in his nomination papers.

Jonathon Seed, a Conservative, was elected to the post in May but subsequently barred from the role.

“The charge relates to an allegation he made a false declaration that he was not disqualified,” said the Crown Prosecution Service.

Mr Seed won the election ahead of Liberal Democrat candidate Liz Webster, winning 47% of the vote.

A Conservative party spokesperson said: “As this matter is now subject to criminal proceedings it would not be appropriate for us to comment further.”

Conservative candidate Philip Wilkinson was elected as Wiltshire’s new PCC in August. The re-run election was estimated to have cost over £1 million.

Mr Seed will appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on 19 October.
