“We need an urgent fix” says chairman of environment committee
Neil Parish, the chair of the environment, food and rural affairs parliamentary committee has called on the government to fix issues with animal welfare.
The MP for Tiverton and Honiton tweeted: “We have an animal welfare issue with too many pigs on farms + farmers facing culling animals which not only wastes great British meat but jeopardises their businesses. We need an urgent fix + a temporary relaxation of immigration rules until we can train more homegrown butchers.”
It comes following the news that hundreds of healthy pigs are being slaughtered amid a UK shortage of abattoir workers.
