Two thirds of Brits think government is handling economy poorly

New polling from YouGov suggests that two-thirds of British adults say the government is handling economy poorly.

When asked “how well or badly do you think the government is handling the following issues?” the pollster found the following results, suggesting the overall public is not pleased with the government’s handling of many key issues:

Inflation, -60; Immigration, -57; Tax, -52; Housing, -47; NHS, -45; Economy, -44; Welfare, -38; Crime, -32; Transport, -27; Environment, -25; Brexit, -24; Education, -21; Defence, +3; Terrorism, +18.

On the economy, these results mark a major dip since May 2021.

The YouGov polls also suggest that as many respondents (27 per cent) think a Labour government headed by Sir Keir Starmer would do do well managing the economy as the incumbent Conservative government led by Boris Johnson (also 27 per cent).

Of YouGov’s seven economic trackers, the Conservatives are only ahead (28 per cent to Labour’s 20) of Labour when people are asked which government would be better to tackle the government deficit.
