SNP shadow leader urges Rees Mogg to resign

The SNP’s shadow leader has urged Jacob Rees Mogg to resign as leader of the House of Commons.

He said that if the minister had “a smidgen of self-respect he would be long gone”.

Pete Wishart made the remarks in this afternoon’s fresh debate on the suspension of Owen Paterson, and the rescinding of the parliamentary standards reform the government have since U-turned on, which he referred to as a “kangaroo committee”.

He told MPs: “You don’t usually survive things like this. You don’t usually survive a story lasting 13 days. He has defied the laws of political science and it is amazing we still find him at this despatch box today.”
