Keir Starmer – ‘Shared national duty to get vaccinated’

Sir Keir Starmer “it matters now more than ever”, as he urged the UK public to get vaccinated

Following Boris Johnson’s TV address on Sunday, the Labour leader shied away from criticising the government and focused instead on the developing Omicron situation. Starmer warned the “NHS is at risk of being overwhelmed”.

“The scientists are clear, a booster vaccine is the best form of defence”, he said.

Labour’s leader argued the “government should have stepped up sooner”, in rolling out the booster programme, but that he was confident the British people will ‘rise up to the challenge’.

Starmer also spoke of the UK public’s “shared national duty” to get vaccinated and follow the rules of Plan B, new Covid restrictions that are expected to pass in the House of Commons tomorrow despite a large Conservative rebellion.

Starmer said: “The health, safety and security of our nation and its people must always be the first priority. That’s why we will always support measures designed to protect public health.”
