Sir David Amess MP’s funeral to take place at Westminster Cathedral

The funeral of Tory MP Sir David Amess will be take place at Westminster Cathedral on 23 November.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, will preside over the service.

According to the BBC, these details were issues to MPs, peers and staff who attend Catholic services in Parliament.

Sir David, the Conservative MP for Southend West in Essex tragically died earlier this month after he was stabbed multiple times during a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea.

Police have since declared the incident as terrorist-related, and have charged one man with murder.

Sir David was a practicing Catholic and was married with five children.

There has been widespread criticism from Catholic and other faith groups over the prevention of Si David’s local priest, Father Jeffrey Woolnough, from entering the scene of the attack, to administer the sacrament of the sick to the MP.
