Rees-Mogg mocks SNP fireworks crackdown

Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg has today mocked the SNP’s introduction of tighter regulation on private firework use.

In a clip from the House of Commons, tweeted by the MP this afternoon, he responded to an SNP MPm saying: “Don’t be such a killjoy.

“”We don’t want to be parliament of the kind Oliver Cromwell would have enjoyed.

“Let’s keep on enjoying fireworks on the fifth of November.

“Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot. The SNP’s killjoy attempts merely annoy, Our fireworks will ne’er be forgot.”

Scotland’s independent Firework Review Group published a report last November.

Since June, Scotland has enforced restrictions on the time of day that fireworks can be used by the general public to between 6pm and 11pm, and curfews on when and what quantities can be purchased by the general public.

The rules on when fireworks can be set off are relaxed on 5 November, also known as Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes night.
