Rayner mocks MP with side gig who told Marcus Rashford to focus on football

Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner has hit out at a Conservative MP revealed to have a second job, after she said earlier this year that footballer and poverty campaigner Marcus Rashford should spend “more time perfecting his game and less time playing politics.”

Her remarks came after the i newspaper revealed this morning that Natalie Elphicke, the MP for Dover, earns £36,000 a year for an eight hour a week role chairing a housebuilding industry group

She wrote via Twitter: “Attacking @MarcusRashford for standing up for hungry kids, voting against free school meals, voting to support corruption and then using your position in Parliament to line your pockets with another job is about as low as it gets. I’m sure Ms Elphicke will want to apologise.”
