Pricey PCR tests to be mostly scrapped ahead of half-term

PCR tests are set to be mostly ditched prior to half term for travellers returning to England.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said people would instead be required to take a lateral flow test; they would then take a PCR test if the initial test came up positive.

PCR tests cost around £75 each on average.

He told Sky News they would seek to implement the change before October 22 for people returning from countries not on the ‘red’ list.
