Poll suggests public concern over Covid has plummeted

Fresh figures from Ipsos MORI suggest that COVID-19 has fallen to become just one amongst a set of leading issues for the nation, rather than its primary concern.

The fieldwork was conducted from 1 – 9 October, a period when the country was experiencing petrol shortages.

There has been a significant decrease in the proportion who see the pandemic as a big issue for Britain; this month 27 per cent mention it, down ten percentage points from the score of 38 per cent in September.

There has been a similar drop in the number of people who consider COVID-19 to be the biggest single issue for Britain, which stands at 13% compared with 21% last month.

Concern about Brexit has risen by eight percentage points to 28 per cent this month, making it jointly the biggest worry for Britain. It is also jointly considered to be the single biggest issue for the country; 13% say this, which is the same score as COVID-19 this month.

Worry about the economy and pollution also feature close to the top of public concerns on scores similar to September (26% and 24% respectively).
