Poll finds 75% of voters say PM should quit if fined by police

A exclusive poll conducted for The Independent shows a record 75 per cent of voters think Mr Johnson should quit if he is found guilty of lockdown breaches by the police.

The Savanta ComRes survey shows that just 16 per cent would want him to stay in those circumstances.

The PM has suggested that his is willing to fight for his position even if if served with a fixed penalty notice.

Penalties for lockdown breaches start at £100 but could rise to £12,000 if the PM is found to have breached rules at all six of the events he is alleged to have attended.

MP Sir Roger Gale said that the new polling shows that the PM’s position “if it is not already untenable, will become completely untenable if he faces any kind of police sanction”.

The Thanet North MP, has already submitted a letter of no confidence in Mr Johnson.
