Paterson motion passes without objection

The motion accepting the parliamentary standards commissioner’s report recommending the suspension of Owen Paterson has finally passed without objection.

The motion was allocated an hour’s protected debate time, after it was controversially blocked by the objection of a single backbench Conservative MP, Christopher Chope, yesterday evening.

The motion rescinded the original amendment which proposed a an overhaul of the parliamentary standards committee.

Mr Paterson formally stepped down as an MP earlier this month after the government U-turned on their original support for quashing his suspension.
