Number of employed people rises across developed world

A report by the OECD has found that four in five OECD nations announced a rise in the number of people employed in the second quarter of 2021.

It comes as nations continue to recover from the worst of the pandemic.

The employment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points in the United Kingdom (to 75.1%), and by more than 1 percentage point in Denmark (to 75.4%), Iceland (to 79.3%) and Norway (to 75.9%).

However the report does warn that many people who remain furloughed count as employed, and may be made redundant once their respective schemes end.

And many nations are still below pre-pandemic levels, including the United States and Canada.
