More ‘partygate’ fines allegedly issued over No 10 garden party

It is alleged that more “partygate” fines have been issued relating to a No 10 garden party on 20 May 2020.

On Thursday the Met said it would not issue any further ‘partygate’ fines prior to the local elections on 5 May.

ITV’s deputy political editor Anushka Asthana said via Twitter: “Breaking: Hearing that police fines are landing into people’s inboxes relating to the garden event on May 20th 2020 – the BYOB event – that Boris Johnson did go to. Met police say they won’t update until end of election period.”

“Sources tell me some no10 officials have received emails,” she went on.

Sky News reports that No 10 say the PM has not, at this stage, received a fine in relation to this event.

ITV’s scoop on this event, published back in January, said that over 100 Downing Street officials were invited.

The prime minister has admitted attending the event, but denied knowledge of it being a party.

No 10 have repeatedly said they will make public any fines received by the prime minister.

Scotland Yard has previously issued 50 fines in relation to the so-called “partygate” affair, including to Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak.

Responding to this afternoon’s alleged reports, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said: “Boris Johnson must immediately declare if he has been given another fine. No more cover-ups, no more lies.

“The scale of the criminality at Number 10 under Johnson’s Conservatives is truly breathtaking.”
