Minister says MPs doing 20 hours of work outside parliament per week is ‘reasonable’

MPs doing 20 hours of work outside parliament per week is ‘reasonable’, international trade secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan has said today.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme earlier this morning she explained: “Let’s say two shifts, that would be 16 hours a week. Are we saying 10 to 20 hours a week outside your work as an MP and a parliamentarian? If that’s what you chose to do as your choice, that’s fine.”

Her remarks come ahead of today’s House of Commons’ vote on banning MPs from second jobs.
