Lack of wheelchair access at COP26 a ‘national embarrassment’, says Labour MP

Labour frontbencher Wes Streeting has blasted lack of wheelchair access at the COP26 climate summit as a “national embarrassment”, via Twitter this morning.

The shadow minster’s comments came in reaction to a BBC tweet referring to Israel’s energy minister Karine Elharrar, who was unable to enter the conference yesterday due to lack of wheelchair access.

She waited outside the Glasgow venue for two hours before returning to her hotel in Edinburgh, according to the Times of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has said he will boycott the summit today if Elharrar is once again unable to enter.
