Labour MP who pulled out of conference citing safety issues attends fringe event

Labour MP Rosie Duffield, who last week announced that she had pulled out of the party’s annual conference, citing threats of violence from trans rights activists, has unexpectedly attended a fringe event.

During the unofficial event on Tuesday evening, the Canterbury MP reaffirmed her stance that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer must “clear up” where the party stands on gender self-ID.

She told Sky News yesterday: “What women like me want is just a pledge that the single-sex exemptions will be kept in the 2010 Equality Act.

“We are absolutely okay with the path to self ID being made easier and trans rights being made easier, but we have to have single-sex spaces protected and that is all we want really.”

During an interview on the BBC’s Andrew Marr on Sunday, Sir Starmer said Ms Duffield was wrong to say that ‘only women have a cervix’.
