UK records highest daily Covid-19 cases since July

Daily cases of Covid-19 are at their highest since July, as the government released the latest coronavirus data in the UK. 42,776 new daily cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, which is the highest daily figure since 21 July (44,104 cases).

In the UK, a further 136 people have also died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. The death toll now stands at 138,080.

There has also been a 6.8% rise in patients admitted into hospital, with 5,416 people admitted in the last seven days.

In better news, more than 49.2 million people have now had at least a first doses, 45.2 million of which are fully vaccinated.
