Green party MP says M25 protests ‘reasonable’

Green MP Caroline Lucas has defended protesters who blocked the M25, and said that their demands were “reasonable”.

Environmental protest group ‘Insulate Britain’ held up the busiest motorway in the UK three times last week after gluing themselves to the ground and installing roadblocks.

Speaking to Sky’s Ridge on Sunday programme, the former Green Party leader suggested their actions were justified in an “emergency”, adding that, “in extreme situations it is reasonable to take extreme actions and that is what has driven these protesters to do that”.

Last week transport secretary Grant Shapps blasted the group as “dangerous and counterproductive”.

The protest group received sharp criticisms on Saturday when a mother was reportedly left paralysed from a stroke after the M25 gridlock meant an ambulance could not reach her for 6 hours.
