Foreign Secretary Liz Truss ‘to build stronger security and defence links’ on visit to India

On her first visit to the country as Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss is in India “discussing developing security and defence tech, and strengthening defence-related trade”.

Yesterday, the Foreign Secretary visited HMS Queen Elizabeth in Mumbai, the spearhead of the Carrier Strike Group (CSG). After a tour of the vessel, she observed live exercises involving UK and US F35B fighter jets. The government website reads: ‘The visit of the Carrier Strike Group underlines the UK’s increasing defence, security and maritime co-operation with India and the wider region’.

Truss said: “Closer defence and security partnerships between the UK and India underpin deeper economic ties and make both countries, as well as the wider region, safer.” 

Commenting on her visit further, the Foreign Secretary stressed that the this trip was part of a mission to build “a network of liberty” around the globe with “fast-growing economies and like-minded partners”.
