Female Labour MP subject to “targeted” attack on car

On Thursday morning, Tulip Siddiq, the Labour MP for Hampstead and Kilburn, returned from the Labour Party conference in Brighton to discover damage to her car.

Siddiq reported a smashed window, scrawled roof as well as a political message left at the scene. The police have said the attack was “targeted”.

“Cars get smashed a lot in my constituency”, Siddiq, 39, said following the attack, “but normally they steal stuff. Nothing was taken and they left a message”.

This news comes following heightened interest in the safety of female MPs. Rosie Duffield, the Labour MP for Canterbury, missed the Labour Conference in Brighton due to security concerns amid controversy over her comments on transgender rights.

As reported in the Sunday Times, Siddiq said the “the targeting of MPs, especially female politicians, has got to stop”.

Siddiq has been the MP for Hampstead and Kilburn since 2015, she served as the shadow Minister for Children and Early Years between 2016 and 2017.
