Ex Lib Dem leader Vince Cable blasted for Russia Today appearance following Ukraine invasion

Former Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable has been rebuked by the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats following his appearance on Russian state media today.

His appearance follows the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Putin’s regime.

Cable, who also served as business secretary during the Coalition government, appeared on a RT show hosted by ex-SNP leader Alex Salmond.

RT is a TV station backed by the Russian state.

Alex Cole-Hamilton, the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, commented: “Vince Cable is a private citizen and no longer a LibDem parliamentarian, but his appearance on Salmond’s RT show this morning was entirely wrong. So too is Salmond’s continued association with this agent of a hostile power.

A party spokesperson wrote today: “Vince has many views which the party has always valued, but appearing on RT is wrong.

“As a leader his strong criticism of the Salisbury incident and Russian oligarchs here are on the record.”

Cable said the segment had been recorded the previous day  and that “with hindsight” it should not have gone ahead.
