Ex Labour peer found guilty of sexual abuse of two children in the 1970s

A former Labour peer has today been found guilty of sexual abuse of two minors.

Sheffield Crown Court heard that Lord Ahmed of Rotherham was involved in repeated sexual abuse of a boy and the attempted rape of a young girl in Rotherham in the late 1970s

The 64-year-old Nazir Ahmed denied both charges.

He will be sentenced by Judge Mr Justice Lavender at a later date.

Prosecutor Tom Little QC told the court that despite Lord Ahmed denying the allegations as a “malicious fiction” a 2016 recording of a phone call between both victims evidenced that their claims were “made-up or concocted”.

Ahmed was charged along with his two brothers, Mohammed Farouq, 71, and Mohammed Tariq, 65, who were deemed unfit to be put on trial.

Lord Ahmed resigned from the House of Lords in 2020 after a conduct committee report fond that he had sexually and emotionally exploited a vulnerable woman who had sought help from him..
