Ex-housing minister slams ‘two-tier’ masking rules in Parliament

Former housing minister Robert Jenrick has today criticised plans to make face masks mandatory on the parliamentary estate for everyone except MPs.

Yesterday Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle issued fresh rules mandating face coverings for all House of Commons staff, however parliamentary authorities do not have the power to make MPs to do so.

Mr Jenrick told Sky News this morning that he would be wearing his mask during this afternoon’s Budget announcement but said it “doesn’t seem right that there is one rule for everyone else in the building but not members of Parliament”.
