Conservative MP says shortages are in UK’s ‘long-term interest’
Conservative MP for West Dorset Chris Loder has suggested that logistics chain problems are not all bad.
Yesterday City AM reported that he told a fringe event at the annual party conference that: “It is in our mid and long-term interest that these logistics chains do break.”
“It will mean the farmer down the street will be able to sell their milk in the village shop like they did decades ago. It is because these commercial predators – that is the supermarkets – have wiped that out and I’d like to see that come back.”
Mr Loder also appeared to mistakenly retweet a post from a user critical of his comments on farming.

Loder, who grew up near Folke in Dorset, joined South West Trains as a train guard aged 18. He continued to work in the rail industry, rising to become head of new trains prior to his election to parliament in 2019.
