Conservative donor who began donating to Labour claims Boris Johnson’s premiership is ‘past the point of no return’

A Conservative donor has argued that Boris Johnson’s premiership is “past the point of no return”.

John Armitage, a billionaire hedge fund manager responsible for £3 million in donations to the Conservatives, including £500,000 during the Johnson premiership, told BBC One’s Breakfast that the prime minister has lost “moral authority”.

Armitage donated £12,500 to the Labour party last year.

Armitage went onto complain that he thought the absence of honour in modern political life was “incredibly distressing”.

“If you do things which the average person, your mother, someone who you admire, if you do something or say something which on the front page of the Sunday Times looks terrible, and you do that consistently, and you betray a sense of not really caring, I think you should leave.

“I find the lack of honour inherent in modern politics incredibly distressing… ‘I’m going to change my advisers’ – God above, what about a sense of personal responsibility?”
