Chelsea Football Club ‘praying for peace’ over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

In a club statement, Chelsea FC said the whole club was “praying for peace” as the Russian invasion into Ukraine reaches its fourth day.

This comes after owner Roman Abramovich, a Russian oligarch linked with the Putin regime, decided to step aside. The Russian billionaire announced on Saturday he was handing the “stewardship and care” of Chelsea to the club’s foundation trustees, but will remain as owner.

The club statement, which totals just 24 words, reads: “The situation in Ukraine is horrific and devastating. Chelsea FC’s thoughts are with everyone in Ukraine. Everyone at the club is praying for peace”.
