Boris Johnson to return to Cop26 tomorrow

The prime minister Boris Johnson will make a one-day visit to the Cop26 summit in a bid to provide fresh impetus into stalling climate change talks.

As the summit enters moves towards a critical stage in negotiations, new analysis by Climate Action Tracker (CAT) suggests the world is still on a collision course with 2.4C warming despite key breakthroughs on issues such as coal and deforestation.

According to CAT, there is “a massive credibility, action and commitment gap” regarding carbon emission goals.

The prime minister is due to travel by train after being criticised for flying back to London from Glasgow last week.

Johnson will hope his visit will help provide progress on further commitments as talks continue this week.
