Hoyle criticises government over NHS pay rise announcement

Sir Lindsay Hoyle has chastised the government for announcing a 3% pay rise for NHS staff without first telling parliament.

The Speaker of the House has repeatedly criticised the government for failing to tell the House of Commons about major policy announcements before telling the media first.

This isn’t the first time the speaker has complained about the government making policy announcements outside of parliament. In June, Sir Lindsay accused Number 10 of “running roughshod over MPs”.
