Unison: Step in right direction

Dave Prentis, Unison general secretary, said in reaction to the publication of the freedom bill:

“The proposals put forward today are a step in the right direction for public protection. Unison has long been calling for a proportionate, and risk based approach to making sure people who work with children and vulnerable adults have been properly screened.

“The government should now set up an independent, just and transparent system to give staff the right to challenge allegations that could stop them from doing their jobs. There have been too many cases of people barred from working with children and vulnerable adults by unproven incidents, who have had huge difficulties in taking an appeal.”
