Cameron: We must improve Britain’s health

Writing in an article for the Times newspaper, David Cameron addresses criticisms of the coalition’s NHS reform proposals:

“Already our health outcomes lag behind the best in Europe.

“Without modernisation, the principle we all hold dear – that the NHS is free to all who need it, when they need it – will become unaffordable.”

He told BBC Breakfast: “If you look at the growth of the elderly population, look at the new drugs that are coming on stream, the new treatments, if we keep the system we have now and don’t make changes to cut bureaucracy and waste, I think it will become increasingly unaffordable. The risk is doing nothing.”
